Commitment

Internet

The average internet speed in the Philippines is 3.7mbps, which ranks as one of the lowest in ASEAN. Not only is our internet one of the least in terms of bandwidth, it is also one of the most expensive: The average Filipino pays for Php858.67 per mbps per month, compared to the global average of Php245.95 per mbps per month.1

Internet penetration is increasing, as the country now has more than 44 million internet users. Internet usage is increasingly becoming important as a means of accessing information, services, and economic opportunities. A review of Republic Act 7925 should be undertaken to find ways to encourage competition and to increase the quality of service and reduce the cost of internet access.

  1. This put the Philippines at 161st of 202 countries in $ per mbps ratio.
