Leni Robredo, vice presidential candidate of the Liberal Party, joined Boholanos as she graced the 119th President Carlos P. Garcia Day in Taglibaran City today (Nov. 4) as guest of honor and keynote speaker.
Robredo was welcomed by Bohol local officials, led by Gov. Edgardo Chatto, during the event that commemorated the birth anniversary of Bohol’s most illustrious son at the Bohol Cultural Center.
During her speech, Robredo paid tribute to Garcia as an outstanding leader and public servant, during his time as congressman, governor of Bohol, senator, vice president and ultimately, as president of the Philippines.
“After listening to the life story of President Garcia this morning, hindi mo talaga pinipili ang destiny mo. Dumarating lang siya,” she said.
Robredo added that Garcia’s legacy is a yardstick for public servants to follow as he served during the time when the country was devastated by World War II.
“At any point in our lives, may hihingin sa atin para magsakripisyo. May hihingin sa atin para magserbisyo,” Robredo said.
Robredo said Garcia overcame the challenges as he put the country and the people’s interest above anything or anyone else.
