VP Leni calls for unity in fight vs. terrorism

Office of the Vice President
06 December 2017
Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday said it is important that the country has a united front against terrorism.
In a radio interview, VP Leni said the fight against such forces must know no political color, and must not be used in pitting alliances against each other.
The Vice President noted that the administration must ensure that it is able to convey that the Philippines, in particular its government, does not condone acts of terrorism.
VP Leni issued the comment in light of President Rodrigo Duterte declaring the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army as terrorist groups, following the cancellation of peace negotiations.
According to Malacañang, the order was issued “in view of the violent acts of the CPP-NPA,” saying it has sowed fear among the people.
“[A]no ba iyong definition ng terorista? Nangingikil. Iyong sa akin po, kung iyong ginagawa ng New People’s Army ay mga terroristic activities, nararapat lamang na ideklara na terorista,” she said.
